Welcome 2021 Coach

Former Sturt premiership player and coach, Marty Mattner returns to Unley in a new chapter.

Mattner replaces Nathan Grima whose two year contract has ended.

Mattner coached Sturt to back to back premierships in Seasons 2016 and 2017. He left the Club at the end of 2018 season to take on an Assistant Coaching role with AFL Club Adelaide.

Mattner said returning to Sturt was more than just coming back.

“I’m excited about where the Club is at.

“There is still work to do but there is a depth of young talent coupled with the older premiership players.

“We sign a couple of good recruits and I believe this group will soon be back playing finals.

“There have been some changes at the Club and I see that as an exciting time to be coming home.

Chris Thredgold, Football Director said that the Club had received many applications for the role and had conducted its due diligence.

“Marty had to convince the Football Committee that he was the right person as there was no guarantee he would automatically step back into the role. His presentation was exactly what we were looking for.

“We are really happy with our decision and look forward to Season 2021.”
